Nail Your Novel: Why Writers Abandon Books and How You Can Draft, Fix and Finish With Confidence

Nail Your Novel: Why Writers Abandon Books and How You Can Draft, Fix and Finish With Confidenceby Roz MorrisCreateSpace

By bestselling ghostwriter and book doctor with a top London literary consultancy

'This book should be used as a text in writing courses'

'There are shedloads of books on how to write novels, and a lot of them are longer and considerably less useful'

'I wish I'd had this book a long time ago'

'The author has a proven track record as a writer of fiction, as opposed to writers of "how to write" books'

Are you writing a novel? Do you want to make sure you finish? Will you get lost and fizzle out? Will you spend more time reading about how to write than actually getting the words down?

Most books on novel-writing will make you read hundreds of pages about character arcs, inciting incidents, heroes’ journeys. It’s great to know that – but while you’re reading about it you’re not writing your book.

And what these books don’t tell you is how to use this learning and get the job done.

Nail Your Novel is a writing buddy – and mentor - in a book.

In 10 easy steps it will tell you:
*how to shape your big idea and make a novel out of it
*how to do your research and how to use it
*how to organise your time
*how to plot and build characters
*when you’re going to hit problems and what to do about them
*how to write on the days you don’t feel inspired
*how to reread what you’ve written and polish it.

Along the way, Thumbnail Notes give tutorials about storytelling and storycraft – strictly when you need them. The author has written nearly a dozen novels that have made it into print – and this is how she did it.

You don’t even need to read the whole book before you get started. You read a section, then do as it says. And, once you’re finally satisfied, Nail Your Novel will tell you how to sell it to publishers and agents.

A FULL index means you can find what you want, when you want it.

You’ve dreamed of writing a novel. Don’t procrastinate with another theory book. Don’t launch in, get stuck and throw your hard work in a drawer. Nail your novel.

The Writer's Compass: From Story Map to Finished Draft in 7 Stages

The Writer's Compass: From Story Map to Finished Draft in 7 Stagesby Nancy Ellen DoddWriters Digest Books

This book will show writers how to develop their ideas into a finished novel by working through it in 7 stages, while learning how to mapping out their story's progress and structure so they can evaluate and improve their work. It teaches writers to visualize their story's progress with a story map that helps them see all the different components of their story, where these components are going, and, perhaps most importantly, what's missing. The book simplifies Aristotle's elements of good writing (a.k.a. that each story should have a beginning, a middle and an end) into easily applicable concepts that will help writers improve their craft. The author helps readers strengthen their work by teaching them how to focus on one aspect of their story at a time, including forming stories and developing ideas, building strong structures, creating vibrant characters, and structuring scenes and transitions. Thought-provoking questions help writers more objectively assess their story's strengths and weaknesses so they may write the story they want to tell.

The Secret Book of Genesis: Gods Lawyer's Draft

The Secret Book of Genesis: Gods Lawyer's Draftby Quincy Graham

The Secret Book of Genesis: Gods Lawyer’s Draft is most amazing archeological find since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947. The manuscript was discovered in 2011 and has just now been fully translated. A law clerk found the document in an old file room on the hundred and twelfth floor of a Manhattan high-rise used by many of the biggest New York City law firms. The Secret Book of Genesis is written in in Biblical Hebrew upon ancient parchment. The scholarly consensus is that it is in fact an authentic draft of Genesis Chapters 1-30. This version of Genesis appears to have been written by God’s lawyer and contains some startling insights into the early practice of law.

The Perfect Draft - 2011 (Pro Football Stats)

The Perfect Draft - 2011 (Pro Football Stats)by Don NicholsBooks To Believe In

In 1967, the NFL and the AFL held their first joint draft. For the six years previously, the two leagues had competed against each other, drafting the same players. Merlin Olsen was not only drafted by the Los Angeles Rams but also by the Denver Broncos. Joe Namath was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as well as the Jets. But for the past 45 seasons, the two – now one – leagues have sat together and jointly selected from the nation’s pool of great college football players.

Looking back over the past 45 years, I wanted to assemble the best picks of all-time, or “The Perfect Draft.” Who was the best player at each pick? What would such a draft look like?

To begin with, the current basic draft will consist of 7 picks for each of the 32 teams. That’s 224 picks before things like compensatory or supplemental picks arrive to muck things up. So that’s what I did, the best of each of the 224 picks.

I realize this method puts players of more recent drafts at a disadvantage. They don’t have the body of work to match up with the like of Favre or Lambert or Singletary.
